Montrezl Harrell, a 6'7 PF/SF of North Edgecombe HS (NC), has recently hit a
positive bump in his recruitment. The talented forward exploded for 29 points against JP
Tokoto's Wisconsin Playground Warriors in his first game at Bob Gibbons Tournament
Harrell currently holds four offers. Clemson, Virginia, Virginia Tech and South Carolina
were the first schools throw a scholarship at the ever improving forward. Since his last
outing; North Carolina, Texas, West Virginia, Florida, Rutgers, Ohio State have inquired
to go along with his previous suitors of NC State, Maryland, ECU, Duke, Georgetown and
Harrell was scheduled to attend NC State's elite camp but will not attend due to a
family reunion. However he will be attending Virginia's elite camp June 14-15 and
possibly attending South Carolina's in August. He has taken campus visits to Virginia
and South Carolina as well as his AAU team has used NC States practice facility on a
regular basis. He also visited Maryland last June.
Montrezl, pronounced with a silent 'L', first came onto our radar when ScoutsFocus
attended his game early winter of his freshman year. He is currently ranked as the #5 player
in the state but he will make a jump to the top two once our adjusted 2012 rankings are released. Last spring at the 2009 Spring Elite 80 Showcase Montrezl did a fantastic job
rebounding, blocking shots and running the floor catching lobs from his camp teammate;
Ryan Harrow (NC State 2010).
Our first impression was that he could develop into a Top 25 caliber SF. He has
gradually progressed his game over to the 3 spot but is still a work in progress.
However, as a face up PF, few in his class can match his motor, athleticism, rebounding
and scoring ability off the wing.
